"If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him." Romans 6:8
What is a Columbarium?
A columbarium is a group of small compartments, or “niches” designed to hold the cremated remains (cremains) of loved ones.
Peace of Mind
Preplanning burial niches in the Church of the Resurrection Columbarium will assure loved ones that you are at peace with your eternal resting place. Instead of being faced with uncertainty those dearest to you will be comforted in knowing your wishes have been fulfilled. The Columbarium is a peaceful haven for family members to reflect on the lives of loved ones.
Who is Eligible to Purchase a Niche?
Persons may purchase Interment Rights for themselves or immediate family members. Immediate family member’s include spouse, children, parents, grandparents, and siblings. Purchaser(s) must be a current or former parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection – Hancock, MI or St. Francis of Assisi – Dollar Bay, MI. Interment in the Columbarium shall be limited to the cremains of a human person. No remains of pets are permitted.
Memorial Arrangements
Arrangements for the purchase of a niche are made through the Resurrection Church Office. When possible this should be done well in advance of need so that your decisions may be made more comfortably, prior to the time of bereavement.
Cremation
The services of a funeral director will be necessary since Michigan law is restrictive in certain areas. A simple urn of permanent material is required, and the cost of the funeral director and urn are not included in the cost of the niche.
Inurnment
Actual inurnment of the ashes in the niche will take place immediately after the funeral Mass or in private on another day. It will be conducted by a priest, deacon or pastoral associate and assisted by Resurrection staff. A date for an interment service should be arranged with the Priest.
Memorial Identification
The name of the interned will be engraved on the niche front. This will include the family (last) name, first name and middle initial, year of birth, and year of death. To maintain a dignified memorial appearance, more extensive lettering or information will not be accommodated.
General
Resurrection Parish is responsible for the maintenance of the columbarium. Only fresh floral displays are permitted provided they are not affixed to the niche.
Niches can be bought directly through the Church of the Resurrection office. Please call the church office (906) 482-0215 for any questions you may have.
